Town's first signing of the January transfer window. Republic of Ireland international Alan Quinn joined Ipswich Town from Sheffield United on a three and a half year deal, for an undisclosed fee. He has been capped eight times by the Republic of Ireland and played in their 2008 European Championship qualifying campaign.Quinn started his career at Sheffield Wednesday, where he was a team-mate of Jim Magilton's, and went on to make 180 appearances for the Owls, scoring 17 goals. After a spell on loan at Sunderland, he moved across the steel city in June 2004 and quickly won over the Sheffield United fans. He is the only player to have scored for both United and Wednesday in derby games.
The Dublin-born player made 109 appearances for the Blades, including 19 in the Premiership last season. Scored his first goal for Town in the 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the month.
