GLENTORAN 1 TOWN 3
Under the shadow of Belfast's iconic Harland & Wolff cranes, Town brought their tour of Northern Ireland to a successful conclusion with a 3-1 win over Glentoran on Saturday afternoon.
But it was the hosts who started with greater purpose, going close after just four minutes when a long-range shot from striker Gary Hamilton crashed back of Shane Supple's post.
Cheered on by a healthy contingent of travelling fans, Owen Garvan then went close for Blues, before Glentoran took the lead on nine minutes.
Hamilton was again a thorn in the Ipswich side, getting forward down the left and sending in a good cross for midfielder Jason Hill to head powerfully home.
If Glens' skipper Paul Leeman thought this was going to be a testimonial game to remember, though, he was mistaken.
The long-serving Glentoran defender could only watch as Alan Lee drew Town level with a header following good work down the right from Jon Walters.
There was plenty of life left in the 22-time Irish League champions, though, and Republic of Ireland U21 keeper Shane Supple had to be alert to pull off a tremendous save from midfield man BJ McMenamin midway through the first half.
Ipswich's nerves were settled on 53 minutes, when Pablo Couñago nodded in from a corner to make the score 2-1 to the visitors.
New signing Pim Balkestein went close with a 25 yard effort before Gary Roberts wrapped up the win with an 85th minute penalty after Jordan Rhodes was brought down in the area.
The result means Ipswich's pre-season tour to the province brought three wins in three games, with 14 goals scored and just two conceded.
