Town were forced to settle for a draw after letting slip a two goal lead, goals from Darren Currie and Jimmy Juan putting Blues in command inside the first 40 minutes.
Currie scored direct from a free-kick wide on the left with Juan adding a second with a header soon after with his first goal for the club.
Gary McSheffrey pulled a goal back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time with Lilian Nalis heading in the equaliser early in the second-half.
Adam Proudlock was handed his home debut for Blues with the loanee preferred to Sam Parkin in attack, Matt Richards restored to the side on the left of midfield.
Richards was soon in the action, almost getting on the end of a Currie cross at the far post, then linking up well with Jay McEveley before Richard Shaw cleared.
Jason De Vos bravely blocked a shot from McSheffrey on 10 minutes as both sides made a tentative start.
The Coventry frontman had Lewis Price scampering back to his line soon after, his opportunist strike going just over the bar from 25 yards.
Town lost Owen Garvan midway through the half with what appeared to be an ankle injury, Juan replacing him.
Blues took the lead on 26 minutes with Currie's free-kick drifting past everyone and into the far corner with the Coventry defence static.
Town were cleared boosted by the opener and Juan and Currie linked up well to set up Nicky Forster who just failed to get his shot in from inside the box.
Fozzie then rounded Stephen Bywater in the Sky Blues' goal but sent his shot inches wide of the far post although the flag was up for a foul on Matt Heath.
Bywater saved from Sito as Town turned up the heat, while at the other end Price saved well from Stephen Hughes.
Blues extended the lead on 37 minutes, Kevin Horlock's free-kick headed in by Juan from 12 yards.
Currie then sent a 30 yard free-kick over the bar and Forster a shot wide with Price then saving well from Richard Duffy's powerful strike, McEveley clearing the danger.
Coventry reduced the arrears right on the stroke of half-time though, McSheffrey firing in from a tight angle following a corner.
Blues were forced into a change at the break with Parkin replacing the injured Horlock, Richards moving into a central midfield.
Coventry's equaliser came on 56 minutes, Adebola winning a header at the back post and Nalis scoring is first goal for the club while on loan from Leicester with a diving header.
Bywater then plucked the ball off the line from a Forster header following Currie's free-kick.
McSheffrey smacked a shot into the sidenetting while Forster just failed to get on the end of a Currie corner, Bywater smothering the danger.
A magical run by Currie on 70 minutes brought the crowd to their feet, the midfielder weaving past three City players before his shot was deflected just wide.
Seconds later McSheffrey had the ball in the net at the other end but referee Trevor Kettle awarded a free-kick against the Coventry man for a foul on Sito.
A mix up between Richard Naylor and Price almost let in Michael Doyle, then Forster claimed a goal with a flick from Parkin, Coventry scrambling the ball off the line as the game swung from end to end.
McEveley's chip went just over, Proudlock having the same result with a left foot shot after cutting inside the Coventry defence.
Dean Bowditch, on a late sub, got on the end of a Proudlock cross but couldn't find the net as Town searched for a late winner but to no avail as Blues had to settle for a point.
