Town made it two wins out of two at Portman Road with goals from Richard Naylor and Ian Westlake enough to take the points against the Owls.
Naylor headed Blues in front on six minutes with Westlake extending the lead on 70 with a right foot cracker.
Lee Peacock pulled a goal back for Sheffield to set up an anxious last 10 minutes but Town held on to take a deserved three points.
With Sam Parkin sidelined with a facial cut, Town boss Joe Royle gave a debut to Dean McDonald alongside Dean Bowditch in a new look attack.
Shane Supple made his first appearance at home as well with Owen Garvan restored to the midfield, Kevin Horlock making way.
Naylor's goal gave Town the perfect start. Darren Currie's corner was only cleared to Jim Magilton on the edge of the box and the skipper hooked the ball back into the danger area for Bam Bam to plant a firm header past David Lucas.
Wednesday fans were on their feet four minutes later when Burton O'Brien's left foot free-kick hit the sidenetting with Supple beaten.
McDonald proved a pain throughout the first-half for the Owls' defence with his pace and trickery, the former Arsenal apprentice beating two players before firing left footed past Lucas and the post.

Naylor strikes |
O'Brien should have levelled the scores on 20 minutes, miskicking in front of goal from Chris Eagles' cross.
It was Town who dominated for long periods of the opening half though and Fabian Wilnis went close to grabbing a second, scuffing a left foot chance after Lucas failed to make a decent punch.
More good work by McDonald created the striker space inside the Sheffield box but Graham Coughlan made the block, then Currie played a superb return pass to Ian Westlake, Coughlan again the Owls' hero with the clearance.
Garvan shot wide after McDonald set him up, then great skill by Currie resulted in the midfielder hitting the sidenetting with a 30 yarder.
McDonald started where he left off just after the break, bursting past John Hills and poking the ball across the goal, then almost getting on the end of Currie's cross at the near post, Lucas making the save.

Town celebrate Westy's goal |
O'Brien carried the main goal threat for Wednesday but couldn't find a strike on target, shooting over from 12 yards.
Matt Richards was more accurate at the other end, testing Lucas with two low drives, with McDonald again calling the Wednesday 'keeper into action.
The Owls enjoyed their best spell of the game following the introduction of their three substitutes on the hour. Drissa Diallo, back at Town for the first time since his summer move to Hillsborough, sent a header at Supple, then Adam Proudlock headed over from four yards.
Town extended the lead on 70 minutes when Westlake sent a right foot strike into the roof of the net from 18 yards following good link up play from Sito and Currie.
Supple denied Coughlan's close range header soon after, then Peacock failed to get on the end of O'Brien's pass when through.
Blues claimed a penalty when McDonald tumbled under a challenge from Coughlan but referee Hegley waved away the appeals before Wednesday pulled themselves back into the game with Peacock's header from a corner on 80 minutes but it wasn't enough to prevent Town taking three well deserved points.
Town line-up: Supple, Sito, Naylor, Wilnis, Richards, Currie (Peters 77), Magilton (Horlock 67), Garvan (Juan 84), Westlake, Bowditch, McDonald. Subs not used: Collins, Barron.
